Key Features
Husband-and-wife design duo Karen Gilbert and Paul Pavlak are firm believers that it’s more about the journey than the destination. Their design process takes in new discoveries and happy mistakes, a mode reflected clearly in the free-flowing movement of the Wrap Pin Pendant from SkLO. As an artist herself, Gilbert understands the creative results that come from pivoting in the design process. This openness lets master glassblowers in the Czech Republic showcase their honed talents in a gestural composition of blown glass tubes. The tubes twist, wrap, and circle with great movement that’s hard to believe is possible with glass. A curved brass bar gives a clean edge to the glass while allowing for its removal at the base. Its bulb tucks inside, shrouded by the wrapping glass. The light shines through every crevice of the contours to create a riveting silhouette and stylized glow.
SkLO is a collaborative design company founded by Pavel Hanousek, Karen Gilbert, and Paul Pavlak. Based out of Healdsburg, CA, the design team collaborates with master glassmakers in the Czech Republic. SkLO glass is built to order, artisans skillfully hand-blow glass for each of the lighting fixtures and objects in the collection. As such each piece is unique, and slight variation is welcome, emphasizing the beauty of the handmade process with every design.
