The Foldability Maya Pendant takes cues from traditional paper folding, embedding each facet of the small lantern with a handmade geometric depth. Twelve parchment paper squares are reformed in to small pyramids, exposing a mosaic of layers that vary the light and shadows when lit. Reassembled in to an abstracted diamond shape, the petite structure has a balanced continuity from every viewpoint, formed from extensive knowledge of mathematical geometry.
Headed by Scottish designer Kyla McCallum out of East London, Foldability is an emerging design studio that creates elaborate and mathematically precise lighting fixtures inspired by origami. With an impressive education and resume ranging from project management to graphic, product and interior design, McCallum brings leadership and artistic knowledge to Foldability, producing a portfolio that stuns with geometric purity and handmade quality.
