The Mat-The-Basics Story
Back in 1942, Mohammed Ayub Ansari founded a company in Noorkhanpur, Bhadohi, India, that specialized in the manufacture and export of handmade area rugs. In 1966 his son, Naimullah, took over the company, naming it the M.A. Trading Company after his father. Naimullah expanded the company's offerings and international presence.
These days, the company is currently run by the third generation, Naimullah's sons, Shaheel and Rashid. During their tenure, the M.A. Trading Company has introduced their own label and company brand, Mat-The-Basics, a line of affordable contemporary rugs.
Why We Love Mat-The-Basics Rugs
The variety of options within the Mat-The-Basics range means that you will definitely find just the right rug for your space. Their modern rugs are available in monochromatic color palettes or with patterns that are formal and geometric or calm and nature-inspired. All of Mat-The-Basics floor coverings are made by hand, either hand-woven, hand-tufted or hand-knotted--depending on the material used and the desired pile depth or pattern. The handmade process ensures quality, attention to detail and minimal environmental impact.
A Fun Fact About Mat-The-Basics
All Mat-The-Basics rugs feature the CARE & FAIR label, identifying them as being made without illegal child labor. The CARE & FAIR organization currently addresses the rug-making industries in India, Nepal and Pakistan. 1% of the value of each exported rug with that label goes to help fund the organization.
Noteworthy Rugs From Mat-The-Basics
The hand-woven Dubai Rug features a thick, plush pile (shag-like) and a range of sizes and rich colors. Meanwhile, the intricacy of pattern available from Mat-The-Basics is evident in the bright, hand-tufted Poppy Rug.
