Why We Love Vico Magistretti

Over the 60 years that his career extended, Vico Magistretti had his hand in the design of a great many architectural projects, modern lighting pieces and home furnishings. He also formed firm opinions about what design should do. Basically, he believed that a well-designed lamp or chair should do its job and do it well for a long time, without the addition of a lot of distracting and wasteful details. In his mind, a simple form was what gave a piece a sense of timelessness, which was then backed up by quality materials and construction methods. No doubt this is why so many of Magistretti's original designs are still around today.

The Eclisse Table Lamp was one of the first lamps Magistretti designed for Artemide. Its unique rotating shade design garnered the lamp the Compasso d'Oro award in 1967.
