The Sopra Quilted Recessed Downlight by Original BTC is a contemporary piece designed and made by hand in the UK using traditional methods. Each textured piece is crafted by skilled workers in Stoke-on-Trent, where only a handful of ceramics factories exist, resulting in a beautifully molded and finished design that showcases the natural finish of bone china. To create this product, the artisans pour a slip (water and clay mixture) into a mold, and after it sets, the ceramic piece is removed and left overnight. The next morning, the product is sponged and fettled to get rid of any imperfections. The resulting quilted and softly shaped silhouette filters light and provides an artful addition to your space.
Founded in 1990 by Peter Bowles, Original BTC is a lighting company rooted in national pride, manufacturing classic and industrial British design for contemporary homes. Encouraging local enterprise, all products are exclusively produced in the UK, utilizing factories in Oxford, Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent to hand-produce and assemble the fine bone china, aluminum and lighting components used in Original BTC fixtures. In 2010, Bowles acquired Davey Lighting (a heritage brand founded in 1885 as a maritime lighting supplier) enriching the brand with industrial-grade designs and traditional craftsmanship.
