A wet rating means it can be placed in a location that is directly exposed to water. A damp rating is similar, but distinctive – this rating means the fixture can be near water, such as in a bathroom or under a covered patio, but can never be directly in the way of water. The light output of the fixture is also paramount, as too much or too little light can shape the space from what was intended, under or overwhelming it.
