Key Features
Cleaning up the ocean’s waters and washing you away with comfort. With each Nova Sea Side Chair from Mater, you’re removing 2.75kg of fishnets and plastics from our waters and doing so with style. This ARDE designed piece highlights the studio’s approach of not just creating for the sake of it, but for the good of the earth and the people that inhabit it. They look at the circular life cycle of each piece, from a strand of raw material to a useful object centuries later. To create the chair’s shell, the studio molds a recycled plastic pellet developed from discarded fishnets and plastics. The shell’s gentle contours and bends are meticulously crafted to suit your body’s features. A slender steel frame supports the shell with a light, Scandinavian feel. When not in use, you can easily stack these chairs together for space savings.
Founded in 2006 by Henrik Marstrand, Mater (Latin for “mother”) is a Danish lighting and furniture brand with a highly ethical approach to design. As a way to improve the environmental and social impacts of production, Mater sums up their company mission in three words: Design, craftsmanship and ethics. Using responsibly sourced materials to create their timeless designs, Mater not only strives to preserve traditional techniques, but takes care to create a cooperative environment between designers and artisans both in Denmark and abroad.
