Why is there a shipping charge?
Some manufacturers require the addition of a shipping surcharge. Shipping surcharges are added to cover the costs of performing certain service levels outside the basic shipping method.
At Lumens, we are committed to our customer satisfaction. For most products on our website, if you don't like it, you may return it within 30 days for a refund (in new, uninstalled condition and original packaging).
To request a return, click here to find your order. Locate your order and the line item that you would like to return and follow the instructions. Once your return request has been authorized you can download your shipping labels or receive them by email. Simply print, attach to the box and drop off at your local UPS store.
Your refund credit will be issued after the item has been returned and inspected.
The cost of the return shipping will be deducted from the credit amount. In other words, you are responsible for the return shipping cost of any item you return.
Any expedited shipping charges you paid on the original order are non-refundable.
EXCEPTIONS - We cannot accept returns of:
- Products that have been clearly identified as non-returnable on the Product Details Page
- Products that have been installed or assembled
- Products that are not in the original condition and packaging
- Products with unwrapped crystals
- Bedding or other linens that have been opened (even if washed)
- Products that are Made-to-Order, Custom or Special Order to your specifications
- Light bulbs
- Large quantities of the same product (6 or more)
- Lumens Annex, Open-Box items or Clearance merchandise
Before ordering large quantities or special order or custom products we encourage you to ask for as much information as you need, including swatches, finish samples etc.
Note that a request to return items totaling more than $5,000 may incur restocking fees. We reserve the right to apply refunds in the form of a store credit in certain circumstances.
Canadian Orders – orders returned from Canada will have shipping and any applicable taxes and customs duties deducted from the refund. Please call customer service for an estimated cost.

Keep in mind that shipping and handling fees, as well as any applicable sales tax, will be taken into consideration. For example, if Lumens offers free shipping and the competitor charges for shipping, then the total price, including shipping, will be matched. We may require some form of verification of the offer and it must be made by an authorized U.S. dealer of the product, following manufacturer pricing guidelines and policies and it must be a stock item. Lumens makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of the pricing and product information on our website. From time to time, pricing or product information may be inaccurate. If this happens, we reserve the right to cancel your order. A complete refund will be made for any items that have not yet been shipped. In the event of inaccurate product information, our sole responsibility will be to accept the product return and provide a customer refund.
Lumens is not responsible for outdated or inaccurate pricing on other websites, affiliates or advertisers. We appreciate being notified when such errors occur so that they can be reported and corrected quickly. We appreciate your assistance and understanding.
What type of recessed housing do I need?
There are two main types of housings: Remodel and new construction. What you need is dependent on how they are being installed. As the names indicate, new construction housings are meant for spaces where the ceiling line, i.e. sheetrock/drywall, has not been installed or has been removed. These housings are designed to be installed between the ceiling joists. Remodel housings are for installations with an existing ceiling. They enter the ceiling through the hole cut in the drywall or sheetrock and are held in place using clips. Another rating to keep in mind is the IC Rating. IC stands for Insulation Contact. IC Rated housings can be installed with the insulation running up to or over the housing. This is especially important for spaces where the housing is going into an attic. Non-IC Rated housings will need a buffer or clear zone around the housing to operate safely. Pro tip: Know the codes and requirements in your area when building or remodeling. If you're the one purchasing lighting for your project, make sure to clear it with your contractor, architect or Lumens lighting specialist to ensure that your choice will pass code in your area.
