The Anglepoise Story
Anglepoise started in 1899 by Herbert Terry and sons. They originally sold products that used their springs, like toasters, bike seats and spring clips. It wasn't until 1931 when George Carwardine established a theory for using balanced weights with these springs that Anglepoise introduced lighting to the company.
Read MoreTheir original design, the Anglepoise 1227 Lamp, was marketed in 1938 as the world's best blackout lamp and were produced for the navigator's chart table in WWII. This adjustable design became extremely popular, resulting in the next generation, the Type 75.
Why We Love Anglepoise Lamps
The Original Anglepoise Lamp is one of a kind, adjustable at multiple points and designed with a certain approachable, almost friendly nature. Most recognized from Luxo's short film for Pixar, in which a young Anglepoise lamp playfully bounces a ball around a room until the ball accidentally deflates, the Anglepoise lamp has a reputation for being simple, classic yet youthful, and functional. It's iconic, available in many colors, and oh-so-easy to use.
Fun Facts About Anglepoise
In 1986, a WWII bomber plane was pulled from the depths of the Loch Ness. In it was found an Anglepoise lamp. After replacing the bulb, onlookers were impressed to find the Anglepoise lamp still worked.
