The Ultralights Story
Ultralights Architectural Lighting was established in 1988 by James Restin in Tucson, AZ. He set the company apart from its competitors by developing a specialized process of "metal patination." Putting that process to work, Ultralights came up with its first collection shortly thereafter, Luz Azul. That collection set the tone for all the 200-plus sconces, bath bars, pendants and chandeliers to follow: hand-crafted contemporary and transitional forms paired with rich metal finishes.
Why We Love Ultralights Lighting
It's all about the finishes. They are at once rustic and luxurious. And there's a lot of them to choose from, too. The texture of these finishes lends the otherwise clean, modern forms of Ultralights' designs a sense of individuality, of character. Within these eye-catching metal frames, the acrylic and natural stone shades just seem to shine a little brighter than they might normally, both indoors and out. Made in the USA.
Fun Facts About Ultralights
So, how does metal patination work? It is essentially a carefully forced oxidation of metals--usually bronze or copper--via chemicals. The exact process is different for different metals. But, apart from the specific color, the general result is the same: a richly mottled, aged effect.
