The Kartell Upper Stepstool designed by Alberto Meda and Paolo Rizzatto is a successful marriage of form and function. Its pragmatism is made possible by the technology employed by Kartell and has permitted the shaping of polycarbonate, giving it the durability, strength and toughness which a stepladder requires. The metal structure is solid and welded to a polished and crystalline body in transparent polycarbonate. The slip-resistant steps are practical and safe. The Upper Stepstool can support a maximum weight of 570 lbs.

Beautiful but...

I had this in red and it's a real eye-catcher. It served us well for about 4 years, but I was on the second step yesterday and it broke in the middle and I absolutely mashed my foot and thought I'd broken my toe. I'm 220 lbs and the weight limit is 470. If I hadn't been wearing my shoes, I'd have been seriously hurt. So yes, it's been 4 years, but considering I'm under half the suggested weight limit and it costs $450, caveat emptor.

I love my new Kartell step stool! It looks beautiful in my closet. It is also pretty tall, so I am able to reach things on the highest shelves. Great looks and great use!

Kartell

Based in Milan, Italy, Kartell was founded in 1949 by chemical engineer Giulio Castelli and his wife, architect Anna Castelli. Originally a producer of car accessories, it was Kartell's experimentation in plastics for the home that made them famous. Stylish home accessories and lighting dominated the 1950s, with the first injection-molded furniture emerging in the 1960s. Since then, the Kartell modern furniture line has only continued to grow, including contemporary chairs, tables, sofas and more--all made out of durable, lightweight and surprisingly comfortable plastic.
