Mater and Studio Arde create with the leading idea of preserving life both underwater and on land. From a chair's start as a speck of plastic to its probable use broken down and recycled later in its life cycle, the company and design studio look at each of their design as a big picture of sustainability. Harnessing true innovation, the piece uses an upcycling process where discarded fishnets are given new life as fine, moldable pellets to be used in a range of recycling plastic ideas. The pellets are fused in a rounded back and seat shell, representing 4.7 kilos of CO2 emissions saved from the planet. Its steel frame proves easy to move and easy on the eyes as its slender contours wind up into a neat armrest. For a relaxed seat, a low-profile layer of upholstery is applied to the top of the sustainable shell.
