Why We Love Kitchen Island Chandeliers

A modern chandelier has the ability to add a sense of luxury to any room almost immediately and in the kitchen, this notion couldn't be more true. Adding a well-chosen chandelier over the kitchen dining table or the island is a great way to add a splash of sparkle and impress your guests. And whether your kitchen's look is mid-century modern or inspired classic and traditional aesthetics, you will find the perfect chandelier for your kitchen here.

Kitchens become elegant and awe-inspiring with the presence of a chandelier. Unlike strictly functional forms of lighting, chandeliers are meant to be put on display to help define and show a room's true character. But in addition to the decorative personality, these chandeliers offer to any room, you'll also love the widespread light output they provide. And when paired with other lighting fixtures, furniture, and kitchen furnishings, you'll enjoy creating a well-rounded -- and well-designed -- room.

A Kitchen Chandelier for Every Style

In a kitchen where lighting is thought of as more functional than decorative, a chandelier is a great option to help define the style of the area. Contemporary kitchen chandelier designs like the Robert Abbey Bling Chandelier or the Vida Chandelier are ideal ways to call attention to the design aesthetic of the room. Meanwhile, for the crystal enthusiasts, there are luxurious chandelier options from Schonbek to fit the theme. And if you are looking to add lighting in the nook of the kitchen, you will want to see the small kitchen chandelier options available from design brands like Moooi and Varaluz. Lastly, to establish energy efficiency in your kitchen, look to any of the LED chandeliers available.

How to Choose the Best Kitchen Chandelier

Selecting the best kitchen island chandeliers will depend on your home's aesthetic and the amount of space you have to work within the room. Begin your search by properly measuring your kitchen to identify how big or how small of a chandelier the room can appropriately accommodate. With a size in mind, you can start reviewing important dimensions like height, width, depth, and weight (to be certain your ceiling can support it) to find the most suitable option for your kitchen. Next, you can further refine your options by the colors, finishes, and features that will blend in with your kitchen's decor. And consider the chandelier's lumen scale to have an idea of how bright it will be. If the island chandelier is not bright enough for your application, you may want to consider a different option or complement your kitchen with additional lighting from a wall sconce or under cabinet lighting. Other Considerations

In larger kitchens where a countertop exists in the middle of the kitchen, like a kitchen island, you will want to see the assortment of island lighting. While most modern kitchen chandeliers are large and round, a kitchen island chandelier takes the shape of a linear fixture to be congruent with the island's shape. Or, consider hanging a set of mini pendant lights in place of a larger fixture. You'll achieve the same light output and be pleasantly surprised with the amount of character mini pendants can offer when strung together. Finally, when the ceiling space is available, consider adding a ceiling fan to help move stuffy air in the kitchen and to act as an alternative light source.
