How to Choose the Right Wall Sconce

Hardwired vs. plug-in. Hardwired wall sconces connect directly to your electrical system for a seamless, cord-free look. Plug-in wall sconces offer flexibility for renters or spaces without existing wiring.

Sizing and scale. The fixture height should be proportional to the wall space it occupies. For flanking applications, keep both fixtures at the same height and equidistant from the center element.

UL ratings for outdoor use. Any sconce used in an exposed exterior location must carry a UL wet location rating. Covered porches and patios require at minimum a UL damp location rating.
