The Tavolo con Ruote Coffee Table from FontanaArte takes the form of a rectangular slab of substantial ground-float glass resting atop four robust wheels, secured with painted metal brackets. Designed by Gae Aulenti in 1980 and made in Italy, the composition reinterprets an industrial factory trolley through refined material contrast, replacing wood with thick beveled glass. The transparent top reveals the mechanical character below, while the rolling base introduces mobility and an understated reference to FontanaArte’s production heritage.

FontanaArte

Architect Gio Ponti founded FontanaArte lighting in Milan in 1932 after serving as the artistic director of Luigi Fontana Company. The focus was on stained glass and its awe-inspiring presence in churches and cathedrals. In 1979, the contemporary lighting company is purchased by several private buyers and is revitalized to include well-known architects and glass artists.
