I have two of these: a large one (3 bulbs) for a basement foyer where the ceiling is too low for a typical fixture, but a recessed light would look too utilitarian and possibly too harsh. It's bright and also looks high end, not basement-y, so provides a cheerful welcome to the space. The other one (2 bulbs) is in the 2nd floor foyer at the top of the stairs, and provides supplemental light, as there's already a chandelier over the stairs. It complements the chandelier, but doesn't compete. It's both attractive and inconspicuous.
