Aluminum Recessed Light Housings

Why We Love Recessed Light Housings

Without the power provided by recessed housings, your recessed lighting would be little more than a hole in the ceiling. The range of available can light housings accommodates a variety of installation needs for new construction or for retrofitting during remodels. They come in standard line voltage or with a transformer to convert to low voltage. And, the selection of recessed housings is IC (Insulated Contact) or non-IC rated as needed to meet specific building codes.

New Construction vs. Remodel Can Light Housings

When choosing recessed lighting for your home, there are two different types of housings you need to pay attention to - new construction and remodel. New construction housings are generally larger and are designed to attach directly to joists in a ceiling before the drywall has been installed. Conversely, remodel housings are smaller, requiring a minimal opening in existing drywall. IC rated housings are the best choice in locations where insulation will come in touch with it. Non-IC rated housings are best installed between floors of a building, where there will be no insulation contact. Knowing the difference in housing type will help guide you to finding the right recessed lighting for your home.

Choosing the Best Recessed Lighting Housings

Once you have definitively determined the type of housing you need, the next thing to consider is its size. Depending on the size of the recessed trims you plan to install, you'll need to select the appropriate diameter of housing to accommodate the trims. Trims are offered in a variety of sizes including 3", 4", 5" and 6" styles. You'll also want to consider the type of lighting that will be used in your recessed fixture.
