Key Features
A reintroduction of the Joergen & Nanna Ditzel designed table from 1955, one that the duo would be proud of as it not only serves as an elegant table but serves to clean our ocean’s waters. The Ocean Rectangular Table from Mater balances our needs with those of mother nature, using an innovative material that’s been refined with a classic Danish feel. For Mater, sustainably has been core to their work since day one. With the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals as their foundation, the Danish company uses materials in inventive ways to satisfy our planet while not compromising design and quality. To create its molded recycled plastic, ocean waste is scooped in tons, sorted from hard plastics to fishnets, and refined to a fine pellet. The ingeniously crafted material gets a new life as an elegantly laid out tabletop. Made in handsome slats, the ocean-based material shows the design’s timeless style as it moves from side to side with spacing in between. A slender steel frame connects these slats while outlining a clean silhouette of gently moving contours.
Founded in 2006 by Henrik Marstrand, Mater (Latin for “mother”) is a Danish lighting and furniture brand with a highly ethical approach to design. As a way to improve the environmental and social impacts of production, Mater sums up their company mission in three words: Design, craftsmanship and ethics. Using responsibly sourced materials to create their timeless designs, Mater not only strives to preserve traditional techniques, but takes care to create a cooperative environment between designers and artisans both in Denmark and abroad.
