Sturdy and more stable than one would expect.
I ordered this chair because because it is made of industrial waste and the seat height is reported to be 17 inches. The composition is undoubtedly true but the seat height is not: it is 18 inches, just like most other chairs. That was a major disappointment as I am short and get so tired of balancing on my toes at dinner. The seat back is a bit forward leaning for me but others might prefer it that way. On the postive side, it came packaged in a large plastic bag inside a cardboard box without additional styrofoam or plastic packaging. Yay Emeco! It is attractive and looks easy to keep clean. I was concerned that it would be too lightweight but it feels solid and stable, not the least bit tippy. If it weren't for the seat height, I'd be ordering 9 more.

Electrical Machine and Equipment Company (Emeco) was founded in 1944 by Wilton Carlyle Dinges in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Dinges' first assignment came from no other than the U.S. government, to manufacture a strong yet lightweight chair that could withstand water, salt air and rowdy sailors. The result was the iconic Emeco Navy Chair, made enitrely out of durable machined aluminum.
