The Edgy Area Rug from Tom Dixon uses a cut-back hand-tufted pile technique over a handwoven base, creating a two-level surface where the border and central field read at different heights. The deep pile of the central area provides a strong tactile contrast against the surrounding border, giving the rug a clear compositional structure. Wool, cotton, polyester, and viscose are combined in the construction, contributing both softness and durability to the finished piece.

Tom Dixon was founded in 2002 with a lofty goal: to revive the British furniture industry. Even as it was founded, the company already had a sort of rebellious, inventive reputation based on the preceding career of the man himself. Dixon, a self-taught designer and welder first burst onto the scene in 1987 with his S-chair for Cappellini.
