The Thor Table Lamp from FontanaArte pairs a straightforward form with an unexpected finish. The diffuser is made of opalyne blown glass with a satin surface that softens the light into a uniform glow. Pagani Perversi Architects kept the overall profile compact and self-contained, with a transparent power cable and switch that receded into the background. Despite its modest scale, the combination of the opalyne glass and the lamp's slightly off-kilter proportions gives it a distinct character that sets it apart from more conventional table lighting.

FontanaArte

Architect Gio Ponti founded FontanaArte lighting in Milan in 1932 after serving as the artistic director of Luigi Fontana Company. The focus was on stained glass and its awe-inspiring presence in churches and cathedrals. In 1979, the contemporary lighting company is purchased by several private buyers and is revitalized to include well-known architects and glass artists.
