Drum Mid Century Modern Pendant Lights

Why We Love Mid-Century Pendant Lighting

The mid-20th century brought a much-appreciated sense of style to the design world in the form of furniture and lighting. Light fixtures from the mid-century era graced homes with a sense of elegance that has since warranted their recreation for the present day. Pendant lighting of this mid-century variety is reproduced today in a number of stunning options rich with design history and of course, modern style. With a mid-century pendant light, you will own a piece of design history and bring stylish character to your home.

Where Mid-Century Pendant Lighting Works Best

Although once thought of as a functional type of ceiling lighting, the mid-century modern pendants that are made available today are meant to make a statement in contemporary spaces. In the dining room, a mid-century pendant puts your sense of appreciation for retro decor visibly on display for friends and family. You'll love hanging a couple of these ceiling lights over the kitchen island or consider a few smaller options in the form of mini pendant lights. In the entryway, retro pendants can help with an inviting welcome while also creating an introduction to your preferred aesthetics. Finally, take the style of the 1950s to the living room with a Sputnik themed fixture. The protruding Sputnik style of light fixture that is reminiscent of the 1950s is recreated here and makes its presence known in living rooms.

A Retro Pendant for Every Style

Reproductions of iconic designs require close attention to detail and an understanding of the history of the fixture. This style of lighting is not just about the presentation of a fixture in a space, it's also about an appreciation for decades-old design. Poul Henningsen's creations from the 1950s are re-introduced here and made available today through Louis Poulsen. In the Louis Poulsen collection, you'll find the classic PH 5, the Artichoke Pendant and more iconic pieces from Henningsen. Le Klint combines vintage pendant styles with a Scandinavian touch and look to any of the lighting designs by Jonathan Adler for something that is truly unique and inspired by the middle of the century. And thanks to modern technology, you can embrace the retro look of the mid-century while also using an energy-efficient LED light source.

How to Choose the Best Mid-Century Modern Pendant Lights

Having already decided on aesthetic is a good first step to choosing the best pendant lighting for your home. Next, you'll want to be considerate of the sizes of lighting you choose. Pendants come in all shapes and sizes to accommodate a wide variety of interiors. Before you begin your search, pull out the measuring tape to gather the dimensions of the area where you plan to install a new mid-century pendant. Be sure to measure for height, diameter and hanging length; some pendant lights hang far from the base of the ceiling while you will find others that install closer to the canopy. The light source is another key consideration. Do you prefer the soft light of halogen bulbs or bright illumination from energy-efficient LEDs? Lastly, decide just how many touches of light you need. Some hanging lights feature multiple points of light, while others will give you a single light source (perfect for a minimalist approach).
