Avant garde Modern Dining Room Flush Mount and Semi-Flush Lights

Why We Love Dining Room Flush & Semi-Flushmounts

A flush ceiling light is the perfect addition to a dining room in need of a little extra illumination. Often found in dining rooms where the floor-to-ceiling height is limited, a flushmount rests along the base of the ceiling, ensuring it is unobtrusive and out of the way. Similarly, a semi-flushmount also mounts to the ceiling but extends 3-4 inches away from its canopy. While a low profile light may not be as stunning as a grand chandelier, you can safely bet one of these fixtures will help add character to your dining space.

Typically considered a functional form of ceiling light, surface mount lighting is the ideal companion to low ceilinged rooms of the home. While most dining room ceilings are tall and home to an illustrious chandelier or multi-pendant, the dining rooms with a shorter ceiling-to-floor height love the presence of a modern flushmount. They are designed to be out of the way, yet deliver dramatic appeal you wouldn't find in recessed lighting or a track system. From boxes to round shapes and elegant crystal-laden designs to more minimalist forms that fit in almost any decorative aesthetic, you'll enjoy adding personality to your dining room with a well-chosen flushmount.

A Dining Room Flush Mount For Every Style

The understated beauty of a flushmount is how simple it is to introduce to a variety of rooms. From kitchens to bedrooms to the hallway and of course, the dining room, flush and semi-flush lighting is just an easy choice of lighting. In transtional dining areas, Kichler is a go-to choice for semi-flush ceiling lights. Drum-shade flushmount designs like Kichler's Convertible Drum Pendant extend only a short distance from the base of the ceiling while introducing the eye-catching good looks of a drum pendant. Retro-inspired dining rooms will appreciate Arteriors Roxanne Flushmount for its familiar Sputnik shape. Simple, yet exceptionally well-designed choices are available from the Minka-Lavery collection and you may especially like Minka's use of darker toned shades and hardware finishes. Artemide's selection allows you to make a statement that is sure to be appreciated by your dinner guests and finally, in the energy efficient dining room, look to an LED low profile light to round out the look.

Choosing the Best Dining Room Flushmounts

Although flush and semi-flush ceiling lights are an uncomplicated choice of lighting, there are a few key things you'll need to pay attention to in order to get just the right light for your dining room. First and foremost, measure the space on your dining room's ceiling where the fixture will be installed. With approximate dimensions in mind like height, width and diameter, you can begin refining your options by the most appropriate size. You'll also need to determine how bright you need the fixture to be. If it is the primary fixture in the room and needs to spread a lot of light, opt for a flushmount fixture that isn't restricted by its own shade. Conversely, to satisfy a requirement of ambient and warm light output, choose a flushmount with a tinted shade. And check the flushmount's light bulb requirement and lumen output to determine exactly how much light it will provide your dining space. Finally, with a size and brightness picked out, you can choose the perfect flush ceiling light by its color, finish and other design features.
