It's hard to believe that the Carl Hansen CH07 Shell Lounge Chair wasn't an immediate success when Hans J. Wegner first designed it in 1963. Apparently, it was ahead of its time, as a re-release 35 years later finally won it the acclaim it so deserved. CH07 has a light, floating aspect due to the winglike lines of the seat and open, arching curves of the 3 pressed hardwood laminate legs.

The cowhide version is amazing.

I was a little hesitant to go with the cowhide version as my space is very clean and simple. It looks great. Provides a bit more visual interest, yet is still clean and classic. And the quality and artisan-ship of the product is at a very high level as you would expect. Have wanted this design for a long time and excited whenever I see it.

Carl Hansen

In 1908, Carl Hansen founded his Danish furniture company based on the premise that high-quality craftsmanship and efficient mass production could work well together. And he was right. With an efficient mode of production in place, the company really hit its stride once it started collaborating with a relatively unknown Danish architect, Hans J. Wegner, in the late 1940s (through the 1960s). The Danish Modern designs conceived by Wegner have proven so consistently popular that Carl Hansen & Son continues to make them today.
