Hans J. Wegner is a Danish furniture designer often referred to as the master of the chair. Making about 500 designs in his lifetime, he is best known for the Wishbone chair – a staple of Danish modern design. With a deep respect for the characteristics of wood and other natural materials, he was able to bring about an organic softness to minimalist forms. Wegner created his own design studio in 1943 and created a series of chairs, including the Wishbone Chair, for Carl Hansen and Søn from 1949 until 1968. A multiple design award recipient, Wegner’s designs are still in production today.
