beautiful but poor quality
I usually do not write reviews but feel that this one is needed. I have owned this lamp for about six or seven years now. I did not have any problems assembling the light like others have stated. I have not burned myself like others have mentioned and I did not install the small adjustment spike that rests directly below the hot bulb. The frame around the glass dome is plastic and does not get hot but I am certain that ugly metal spike would cause a blister. The light worked flawlessly for about four years. The light output began to fade in and out and flicker. Eventually it stopped working completely. Since I have electrical experience, I disassembled the light to find a broken solder joint in the base. So I fixed it. It worked for about another year or two before it began to fade and flicker again. Now it will only stay on for a few seconds at a time. To get it to come on I have to push and pull in order to rotate all the joints (base, middle, and top) almost like I have to clean the corrosion off of the connections the way you would a car battery. It is too much work to get this lamp to stay on. I have disassembled the light a second time to check all the connections and everything appears to be ok. I have not tried to contact customer support about this problem simply because I tried to order the desk clamp (not available in the US) shortly after I purchased the lamp. So here I am in the market for a new desk lamp. I love the slenderness of this lamp but there are too many opportunities for failure when there are so many connection points. Buy this lamp only if you intend on looking at it and not actually expecting to use it.
it's gone and i'm happy about it
i burned my fingers so many times that i got really tired of this lamp. besides i got minor electric shocks whenever i would happen to touch the 'arm'. would not recommend this lamp, there's plenty of other great designs out there. i got rid of the lamp and am very happy about that.
good product, slow shipping from manufact
this is a good product that took a very long time to get here from italy. ylighting service was very good, but the ship time was out of their hands. the product appears to be high quality and is very well designed. it is an icon, after all. some of the plastic parts seem less rigid than other brands or models, however, this does not appear to impact performance or construction integrity.
Great Lamp
The lamp is great, but it came with a piece missing which I still have not received from Customer Service.
Luceplan
Established in 1978 by architects Riccardo Sarfatti, Paolo Rizzatto and Sandra Severi, Luceplan defined its goal of democratic quality design, free of stylistic clichés and opulence, from the very onset. This approach--soon acknowledged by the market and numerous international awards--was perfected when Alberto Meda, an engineer with a passionate love for design, joined the team in 1984.
