Ward Bennett

Ward Bennett was an American designer, artist and sculptor operating primarily in Manhattan. Born in Washington Heights, Manhattan, in 1917, Ward Bennett started working in interior design in the mid-1940s. With work described as “an era,” by The New York Times, Bennett sought to create a design style uniquely American in response to European design in the 1960s and 1970s. He was one of the first designers to use industrial design in home design with a style considered “sensual minimalism.” The designer of over 100 chairs by 1979, Bennett had worked for several high-profile clients including President Lyndon B. Johnson.
