Environmentally Unfriendly Return Policy

I really liked the look of this desk fan online and it got good reviews. It arrived with the base finish peeling off and doesn't look great. Since I paid so much for it, I reported it. It seems the only way to get a replacement fan is to destroy this one... even though it functions fine. I offered to donate it to a shelter instead, but was told that was not an option. After much back and forth, I couldn't bring myself to cut the power cord off and trash it, adding even more to the throw away economy we have created. I did get a small discount. I hope that in the future the fans can be inspected for flaws before shipping and that those that do not meet the standard can find a home somewhere/somehow.

Beauty is only skin deep . . . .

This is an absolutely lovely fan. I have a bit of obsession with older and/or retro fans so I'm happy to have it my collection. I would give it 5 stars on beauty, 2 stars on function. (Although it IS quiet . . . ). However, it doesn't move much air -- probably why it's quiet -- and certainly doesn't move it 70 feet. It's more like a gentle summer breeze than a brisk wind across the plains. It would best be used in a small room or office space. But, it is pleasing to the eye and that's important, too. [The only reason I wouldn't recommend it to a friend is if they wanted a fan with serious air movement capability -- in that case get a Makita. But if they want a fan with style . . . this is the one. And for those reasons I have BOTH!]

Efficient, funstional and quiet

This is the third fan from Vornado that we have purchased, that should tell you how we feel about them. We have them in several rooms to keep the circulation going and it does seem to help with both heating and cooling efficiency.
I was watching a MacGyver re-run and noticed he dismantled one in an episode to escape a locked room, many uses!
