Lifesaver for a stale apartment
Rated 5 out of 5 stars
I live in a small apartment that has few windows. It's above a restaurant kitchen so it gets hot up here, and the air just does not move during the summer, so it gets stale and stuffy inside even with an air conditioner. I don't like being in cold, dry AC air all summer, especially at night when it is cool outside, and I'm trying to use fans more often to cut energy costs compared to air conditioning. With this situation, the Transom fan makes a huge difference. Even with just the fan running intake or exhaust on low, with the top of the double-hung window open above it (the other window in this room is occupied by the AC, so it's the best I can do), it rapidly exchanges the inside and outside air to cool the apartment and bring in a consistent flow of fresh air. This thing really moves a lot of air, fast. And this apartment is notoriously hard to cool, but the Transom fan will bring the temp from 78 down to 71 at night, or during a warm day, without issue. The low setting is very, very quiet and brings a steady, cool breeze across my sofa and armchair in the living room, which is great, or it steadily pulls out hot air and lets cool air come in through the open top of the window. The high setting is not very loud, just a steady rushing sound of air, can't even really hear the motor. Much, much quieter than my AC or other fans. It's great when cooking, too - the window is in my combined kitchen/living room and it exhausts the heat really well. I usually run it all night on low so that when I get up in the morning, the apartment is nice and cool and the air is fresh. Basically, whenever I'm not using my AC, I'm using the Transom fan.
It even fit inside the small, mediocre, non-standard replacement window my landlord put in with no trouble - the block system is a little tricky but I managed to squeeze it in. The fan doesn't "seal" when off/closed (the fan when off rotates inside the unit to block airflow, but not completely), and I need to use some tape around the blocks to get a complete seal around the fan unit. However, the airflow when the unit is off is extremely minimal, so I haven't bothered taking it out of the window when I use the air conditioner. I might use some winter window film and tape to create a barrier over the fan grill on truly hot days to prevent hot air coming in, which would be easier than taking the fan out of the window (this fan seems to be intended to stay installed rather than cheaper, standard window fans with extendable sides that you can pop in and out).
With a Vornado tower circulator in the room to really move all the air around and supplement the Transom, this is a great cooling and air exchange option that doesn't rely on air conditioning and makes a challenging cooling situation easier to manage during the hot months. I love it. Five stars.

Best window fan on the market with some room for improvem...
Rated 4 out of 5 stars
Ive had this for a few months now and I am in love. Ive owned several window fans but this is the sleekest, quietest one. However, the internal temperature sensor is not accurate in gauging the room's temperature. I wish the unit was smart plug compatible so I could pair it with a smart wall outlet and my own smart thermometer. This would allow me to create smart routines based on the outside or inside air temperature or time of day, very handy for when I am not home. This is easiest with analog switches and buttons but I've had lamps with capacitive buttons that were capable of this too. Additionally, the ability to adjust the angle of the air a bit would be nice. In spite of these shortcomings, I am very satisfied with the fan.

I have a big home assistant/homekit setup and I really wanted to be able to tie this into it. I am able to control it using the broadlink rm4 but the fact the first command from the remote doesn't actually do anything just "wakes" up the unit makes it a bit of a pain to automate in anyway. I see they have an alexa enabled version but sadly it's not a direct tie into the ecosystem I am using. Would love for them to have a wifi version that maybe has a web or app for control so you could tie it into other home automation stuff.

Great idea and build quality, doesn't fit all windows, sh...

Build quality and design are fantastic. The "closed" setting is a great idea, but the implementation is lacking; the shutter doesn't actually seal the outside port, it just kind of covers it...mostly. You can see tons of light and feel a breeze despite the shutter being closed. Don't leave this thing in a window unless you're actually using it. It doesn't actually fit in my window (which is a very common design window) unless I take the screen out, and even then it sits/fits weird. Despite that, it is still usable/fully functional when sitting on the inner sill, albeit that not being the intended install. Also, the foam blocks needed a lot of trimming to properly fit regardless of configuration.
In conclusion, it is a very well built and designed unit (making a truly universal window mount/insert device seems like an impossible goal) and I'm satisfied with it despite its shortcomings. In the end, it is supposed to go in a window and move air, which it does, even though I can't install it "properly."

Most effective small window fan I've ever had
Rated 4 out of 5 stars
Generally great design. Powerful and quiet airflow. I suggest two changes: first, offer a detachable power cord, with a socket at each end that a user chooses depending on which is nearest to an outlet. Keep the sockets on the inside (of course)---it's silly to have the cord coming out of the rear/outside surface of the fan, when it will need to be routed inside to an outlet. Yes---it will raise production cost a bit, but if fairy priced, well worth it. Second, integrate a timer into the unit, to allow programmed on and off times. You can plug the unit into a separate timer, but the unit will not turn on when that timer turns on the power, defeating most of the purpose of using a timer at all.
