The Ame Side Table from Serax places a wide, flat top above an open, arch-shaped base, the body carved away on one side to leave a curved negative space running through it. Designed by Marie Michielssen and made from stoneware, it is shaped by hand and finished with a glaze, so slight surface variations appear naturally from one example to the next. Its hollow base gives the table a sculptural character that goes well beyond what a purely functional piece would call for.
