Avant garde Shadow-Casting Lights

Shadow-Casting Lighting

Turn on the lights…and step into the shadows. Beautiful light fixtures can be more than just focal points on their own. Some clever designs cast shadows and patterns that add unexpected decorative elements: Shadows can subtly break up large areas, while playful patterns on walls add interest without sacrificing space. By playing with the intricacies of shadow and light, you’ll be poised to control the mood of your interior design.

Why We Love Shadow-Casting Lighting

Adding unusual elements to interior and exterior design schemes sets your home apart and reveals your personality. Tastefully selected lighting is integral to a well put-together room, and lights that cast interesting shadows reveal depth--not only of light layering, but of thoughtful design. Wall sconces, like the ones by Modern Forms, are a natural choice to cast patterns along walls, while hanging lights by brands like Luceplan and Terzani are perfectly poised to highlight surfaces below as well as drawing eyes to ceilings with fascinating interplays of light and shadow.

Other Considerations

For a petite, portable option that still throws some major shade, check out the Tom Dixon Etch Tea Light Holder. Its geodesic silhouette is crafted of perforated metal panels that let light shoot out through the pinholes and cast beautiful patterns on any nearby surface. And consider low profile ceiling light options, which project concentrated patterns upward thanks to their proximity to the ceiling.
