The bed is as expected, however we thought that it'd make the mattress more than 3 inches off the ground. It's basically the same as having your mattress on the ground. We may try to do a makeshift "box spring" but it can't be too high cause otherwise the headboard will be too short. The mattress also doesn't fit perfectly in. The width is tight but there is a few inches at the head and foot of bed. Very heavy and well made bed overall!
