One of the most important things to consider when purchasing outdoor lighting is whether it can hold up to the elements. Ensure the fixtures have a UL listing for damp or wet locations. A damp-rated product is okay for covered porches or patios that won't come into direct contact with rain, but a wet rating is required for any spaces that can be in contact with rain.

Choosing which type and style of light fixture is wanted may be the hardest part, but it's not the only thing that needs to be considered. Always keep the installation process in mind. If hanging a pendant light in an entryway, leave plenty of room for people to walk beneath it. At least an 84' clearance is recommended, but the higher the better. If sprucing up an outdoor entertainment area with a chandelier, bear in mind the weight of the fixture, where it will be installed, and whether or not someone will need to help install it Depending on location, the lighting might need to be Dark Sky compliant so nature is not disturbed by the new fixture. With so many choices you'll be able to find something that works perfectly for you.
