Sign InA project started by designers Marcel Wanders and Casper Vissers in 2001, Moooi creates furniture, lighting and accessories for the truly intrepid lover of modern design. The name comes from the Dutch word for beautiful, adding an extra "o" to the word to express the company's "extra value in terms of beauty and uniqueness."
It is no wonder then, that Moooi designs are all provocative and irreverent (and completely original), capturing attention and the imagination with their avant garde artistry and allure.
The funky, experimental lighting and furniture designs from Moooi range from simple to sweet to a little out there. The Moooi line includes contemporary lighting fixtures like the design lovers' Random light collection, modern accessories in the form of vases and candelabras, and Moooi furniture pieces that expand on the concept of "good design" and broaden our own perspectives on what is considered art. Whether there you like a piece or not, the quality and handcrafted detail is intrinsic and undeniable.
Moooi's pieces are sometimes inspired by nature, their accessory and lighting lines featuring a horse, two rabbits and two pigs.
Designed by Bertjan Pot, the Moooi Random Light started as a craft project, made by coiling epoxy-dipped fiberglass around an inflatable mold. It's one of Moooi's most popular designs and definitely worth taking a look at. And for something more animalistic, check out the Horse Lamp by the Swedish design group Front.
