The best surprise is the heavy solid metal-plate disc that makes the design special. The other parts are generic sheet metal but are finished to very closely match the disc. This brand is the least expensive of all the 'disc' socket lamp holders I have seen, and only up close is the economy noticeable. The pendant cord is a beautiful braided cord. I used a half-gold G-lamp, so there is practically no illumination, but it is very cool-looking.
