This piece encompasses the qualities required of every SkLO design, subtlety, restraint, and beauty. Examining the elements of this piece creates an instant connection with Gilbert and Pavlak’s background as an artist and architect, respectively. The blown glass globe shade is crafted by masters in the Czech Republic. The artisans fill out the globe with their breath and leave an artful accent with a fire-polished mouth. A clean-cut metal suspension complements the globe in streamline look, one fitting as single or as a series. SkLO

Located in Northern California, SkLO is the brainchild of artist Karen Gilbert, architect Paul Pavlak, and Czech-native Pavel Hanousek. The three met in Healdsburg in 2009, and after discovering a unanimous passion for hand-blown glass (sklo means “glass” in Czech), they decided to create a multi-disciplinary studio focusing on glass lighting and accessory design.
