The Marc Sadler Story
No one has better designer sportsmanship than Marc Sadler. Sadler’s knowledge of the sport world and his interest in plastics translates into the lighting design world almost effortlessly. His designs are extremely durable, meant to last, and have a built-in sporty nature to them. They represent a high fashion contemporary mentality, and the science behind the designs, while practically invisible, is quite impressive. Sadler has a way of making Italian lighting sexy and strong, a message that's clear in each of his collections.
Why We Love Marc Sadler
"Well-traveled" is an understatement. International designer Marc Sadler is a French-born citizen who grew up in Austria, graduated from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris in 1968 and currently lives in Milan. He's best known for his experimental work in plastics, developing the first fully recyclable thermoplastic ski boot in the 1970s. While he has an extensive background in the sport industry developing shoes and apparel, Sadler also dabbles in modern lighting design, creating unique works for Fabbian and Foscarini and considers his true passion in life to be painting and drawing.
Noteworthy Lighting by Marc Sadler
Inspired by a fisherman holding a pole, the Twiggy Floor Lamp is composed of compound elements on lacquered fiberglass and features a counterweight system that keeps the lamp from tipping over.
In His Own Words
"Everything doesn't always turn out well; sometimes we fail, and even if the reasons do not concern our own work, the failure is ours too, and no less painful."
