Designer Eero Saarinen sought to create a chair that was comfortable because of the shape of its shell instead of relying on the thickness of its cushions, and in 1946, he introduced the world to this chair, forever changing the way people looked at executive seating. The shell is made from curved polycarbonate, and the legs are solid, steam-bent oak.
