Brass Rustic Modern DC Ceiling Fans

Why We Love DC Ceiling Fans

What's not to love about ceiling fans with DC motors? For those interested in energy efficiency (and, frankly, who isn't these days?) this up-and-coming fan technology is truly something to be really excited about. DC fans consume up to 70% less energy and run almost silently. Plus, DC motor ceiling fans are now available in a wide range of casual and modern fan styles from popular manufacturers and most are so efficient that they have earned a ENERGY STAR rating. A ceiling fan with a DC motor allows you to keep your home cool with efficiency being top of mind.

How Exactly Do DC Ceiling Fans Work?

In short...the DC motor starts up when a small electric current is passed through a magnetic field coil. The resulting magnetic force producing the torque that turns the motor repeatedly. This process requires less electrical energy, translating into a 70% or greater reduction in power consumption over standard AC motors. This energy efficient process keeps the motor cool, effectively improving the fan's life span. Noise is also virtually eliminated. And the overall assembly is much more compact than standard fan motors, making for a smaller and lighter product.

How to Choose the Best DC Ceiling Fan

When selecting a ceiling fan for your home, you must consider its size. Fans are measured by their blade span (the diameter the fan will spin), the size of their blades and how far the fan will hang from the ceiling. You'll find options for tall ceilings where a downrod is a necessity and flushmount fans that hug the ceiling, as well as fans with small and large blade spans. Once you know the size and style of the fan you would like, you can then refine your options by additional efficiency metrics including the fan's CFM. Other Considerations

Emerson Fans is the proud pioneer of direct-current fans and a leader of the modern options found here. Many other ceiling fan makers, including Monte Carlo and Minka, have followed suit and now include DC technology in their fan motors. Want to double up on the energy efficiency in your fan? Look to any DC motor fan that includes an integrated LED light kit. LED light sources are long-lasting and end up saving you money over time, all while providing a significant amount of downlight.
