Coastal & Nautical Ceiling Fans with Remotes

Why We Love Ceiling Fans with Remotes

A ceiling fan with a remote provides the convenience of being able to control the rotation speed and lighting of your fan from the palm of your hand. Instead of controlling the fan with a common wall switch or using the pull cords found on traditional ceiling fan designs, these fans allow their user to sit back, relax and enjoy the cool breeze offered by the fan. These well-designed remote control ceiling fans also come in all decorative styles ranging from contemporary to those with a retro vibe to suit your interiors. Take control of your ceiling fan with any of these options.

A Remote Control Ceiling Fan for Every Room & Application

Ceiling fans often require a remote due to the height of the ceiling they are mounted to. Unlike common ceiling heights of 8 or 9-feet, these ceiling fans mount to taller ceilings and most of them require the use of a downrod extension. To avoid trying to reach the fan's controls or lighting component, the included handheld remote gives you the ability to safely and conveniently operate the fan's controls. Consider any of these ceiling fans for your entryway or foyer where tall and vaulted ceilings likely exist. Keep air fresh in the kitchen with the ease of a fan with a remote and place any of these fans in your bedroom to avoid stumbling in the middle of the night to try to turn the fan on. Lastly, keep guests cool with a remote control fan in your living room or great room.

A Ceiling Fan with Remote for Every Style

The inclusion of a remote control tends to mean a fan trends more on the modern or contemporary side of the design spectrum. Opposed to traditional ceiling fans with pull chains or wall controls, the well-curated fans in this assortment offer you the best modern technology has to offer. For a decidedly contemporary look and quality you can trust for years to come, turn to the collection from Minka Aire. Most ceiling fans from the Minka Group include handy remote controls, as well as additional unique features. Take convenience to the next step with a fan from the Fanimation line. Fanimation, a leader in ceiling fan technology, offers a smartphone app that allows you to operate all of a fan's controls from the palm of your hand. Opt for a sleek look with any of Ron Rezek's fans for the Modern Fan Company. Using stainless steel and aluminum finishes, these fans make a modern statement anywhere they are placed. And finally, look to the self-proclaimed inventors of the ceiling fan - Hunter Fans - for more traditional and transition designs that include a remote control.

How to Choose the Best Ceiling Fan With Remote

Once you find a ceiling fan that fits the decorative nature of your home, look to its product details to confirm it includes a remote control or can work with another manufacturer's remote. Some ceiling fan options are not configured to work with remote, so you'll want to verify this information before purchasing the fan. And if you are looking to a ceiling fan with a light and remote, you'll also want to make sure its remote can operate its integrated light fixture.

Sizes of Ceiling Fans with Remotes

As with any other type of ceiling fan, the size of a remote-controlled fan is measured by its blade sweep (also referred to as its blade span or diameter). Before searching for a new fan, thoroughly measure the area of your ceiling where you plan to install a new fan and then look for the appropriate diameter. Varying blade span sizes are suited for different rooms of the house. For instance, a 60-inch ceiling fan with a remote is best for a living room or great room while a 44-inch design is more appropriate for a bedroom, breakfast nook or smaller area. Consider the area where you are installing the fan and how its size will fit in among other furnishings and decor.

Ceiling Fan Mounting Types

As part of finding the right blade sweep, you'll need to choose the correct mounting type for your application too. Rooms with ceilings higher than a traditional 8-feet should consider the fan options that include a downrod extension. The downrod simply pushes the fan out from the base of the ceiling, giving it plenty of room to hang. Conversely, in rooms with 8-foot ceilings or shorter, opt for a low profile fan. Semi-flush and flush mount ceiling fans with remotes mount near the base of the ceiling, providing you plenty of clearance in the room. Measure the floor-to-ceiling height of your room to make the best possible choice.

Ceiling Fan Colors & Finishes

In addition to the multiple sizes available, remote control ceiling fans are offered in a wide variety of colors including motor and blade finishes. Carefully think about the existing color palette in your rooms to find a fan that will seamlessly blend in. Gray, white and black ceiling fans with remotes are a go-to option in spaces with minimalist tones where you don't want a popping amount of color. A rustic finish with wood, brown or iron is a good fit in rooms with a darker color palette. Contemporary spaces will appreciate metal finishes like stainless steel and brushed nickel. In choosing a ceiling fan, remember to view its blade colors as well as the finish of the motor and any visible hardware.

Installing a Ceiling Fan with a Remote

If you have thought about how to install a ceiling fan with a remote, not to worry, it's easier than it may sound. When installing a ceiling fan - whether it's a flush mount ceiling fan or one that includes a downrod extension - the remote's receiver will be tucked away inside of the canopy with additional electrical wiring, nestled in between the ceiling and the fan's motor. A pattern of digits is set on the receiver to communicate with the external remote once the ceiling fan receives power, and viola, you have a remote-controlled ceiling fan. Other Considerations

Many of these ceiling fans can also be used outside on covered patios and decks, where controlling the fan with a remote is preferred. Outdoor ceiling fans with remotes carry a damp or wet UL rating, making them safe for outdoor use or any location where the presence water is unavoidable.
