Barcelona Chair

When buying a Barcelona chair one needs to make several decisions. First of all, should one buy a copy or the licensed Knoll. I can only say, that there is a difference, the Knoll just offers the best quality you can get. Everything is made to perfection. I have seen many copies, from Italy, from China etc. None would reach this quality. Second choice, stainless steel or chrome. I was doing some research trying to find out about the difference apart from the price. As the stainless steel is made from one piece, it is made to live forever. We know some people that have their Barcelonas for more 40 years and the chairs are still in very good shape. These are stainless steels from Knoll. Today, in Germany you can only get chrome, which is also the original chair made for the Barcelona Pavillion. It was changed inbetween to stainless steel and then back, mainly because the stainless steel version would be too expensive. We decided to go for stainless steel. The hand polished steel looks awsome, more elegant than chrome (we have an Eileen Gray side table in chrome next to the chairs). Next choice, which leather. We selected Sabrina which is smooth but still strong and can be used with kids. It feels so soft. Volo looks pretty cheap and more like a copy. Make use of getting the samples from YLiving, it will give you some picture on what to expect. And finally, what color. We were looking for some of the early Cognac color and found it with Sabrina Monarch. Interstingly it seems like that color is not available anymore which would be a minus. Luckily we already bought two. Whenever we have visitors they immediately talk about the Barcelonas and want to sit on them. It was a lot of money spent, but it is worth.
