Expressive shapes upholstered in elastic fabric make the UP Armchair and Ottoman from B&B Italia one of the most outstanding examples of design. Positioned midway between design and art, this armchair has become one of the most iconic pieces in the history of design. It was designed by Gaetano Pesce in 1969 and re-launched in 2000, winning the distinguished Compasso d’Oro - Product Career Award in 2022. The shape of a womb inspired the piece’s look, invoking ancient statues of goddesses of fertility. This motif continues with the attached ottoman, contrasting the look of comfort with a perception of female strife in the 70s, tethered by ball and chain.
