One happy "lamp camper"

I bought two Bruno table lamps with the fondine (smooth, nearly-white) shade and I'm very pleased. First, the lamps were brilliantly packed so that even the one in the carton that arrived partly squashed was perfectly intact. In fact unpacking takes lot more time and muscle than assembling the lamps, which is quick and easy. They have a quality feel, and several nice details that aren't apparent in the listing. For example, the sturdy "Deco" finial matches the collar at the base. Even the knob for adjusting the height (which isn't visible unless the lamp is extended) is pleasantly detailed. I would call the style "updated Art Deco." Note, however, the ebonized nickel parts are not shiny like they appear in Lumens' photo. Their dark silver matte finish is nonetheless attractive. They are perfect as bedside lamps – among other things, they don't take up too much real estate on the bedside table, but put out plenty of light with a three-way 75-100-150 watt incandescent bulb. The power cord is clear (yay!) and quite long (yay!). I would like to see how they do with CFL bulbs, but the ones I have around the house are higher wattage and are too bulky to fit within the harp. My major concern, and the reason for 4/5 stars, is the hard, heavy material in the bottom of the lamps – doubtless there to stabilize them – looks and feels like it was roughly stuffed in, and is even flaking off one of the lamps like a little bit of black dandruff. The lamp has broad felted feet (so the cord can come out the bottom at almost any angle between the feet, nice touch) to protect furniture but I will keep an eye on the felt through the years; the bottom is rough enough to scratch furniture. The felt should be easy to replace though. Made in China.
