Stackabl

Amid rising concern over landfill waste and resource inefficiency, Stackabl emerges from Toronto as a luminous example of design with purpose—melding technology, craftsmanship, and sustainability in beautifully configurable lighting and furniture. Founded by the multidisciplinary studio STACKLAB, Stackabl isn’t just making products—it’s rewriting the narrative around material waste and creative reuse.

Circular Design, Customizable Beauty

At its core, Stackabl tackles textile and manufacturing waste by transforming high-quality remnants—Merino wool felt, recycled PET, rescued stone, cork, aluminum—into acoustic, ambient furniture and lighting. These materials are sourced within roughly 150 miles of the Toronto studio, leveraging regional manufacturing networks.

What makes Stackabl truly distinctive is the patent-pending configurator—a digital platform that allows customers (or designers) to co-create with real-time 2D/3D visualizations. Users pick colors, shapes, densities, sizes, and see the work come alive instantly—with instant pricing feedback. Behind the scenes, algorithms pair chosen aesthetics with actual material remnants from partner manufacturers, and robotics help optimize their use.

Design Collaborations & Iconic Collections

Stackabl’s debut furniture line launched in 2021, featuring creations by celebrated designers such as Alexandra Champalimaud, Drake & Anderson, Elena Frampton, Georgis & Mirgorodsky, Laura Kirar, and Benoist F. Drut, blending personal histories, architectural references, and design lineage. The pieces ranged from chaises to club chairs, each distinctly shaped by its creator while rooted in the Stackabl system.

Lighting followed soon after, with modular pendants made of layered felt discs, aluminum framing, and dimmable LEDs, allowing for broader price-accessible configurations. One of the latest luminous entries is the Tilt + Shift collection—designed in collaboration with The Rockwell Group. Launched in 2025 at Salone del Mobile and ICFF, these pieces pair post-industrial cork bases with softly stacked Merino wool felt discs, topped by touch-dimmable LED heads. Ranging from table to floor lamps, they stand between 6 to 46 inches tall and are instantly personalizable. This collection underlines Stackabl’s mastery at balancing material logic with sculptural charm.

Sustainability & Recognition

Stackabl’s ambition—“Turn waste into wonders”—is embedded in both its products and its impact targets: the brand aims to divert 500 tonnes of textile waste from landfill by 2029. Their work has earned industry recognition including a Best of Year (BOY) award for Acoustic Lighting in 2023, as well as accolades from Green Good Design and AZ Awards for innovative design and circular manufacture.

Why We Champion Stackabl

At Lumens, we celebrate Stackabl because it demonstrates that responsibility and refinement aren’t mutually exclusive. Every light or chair is a statement—of style, ingenuity, and material consciousness. Stackabl invites customers to be co-designers, to choose beauty without compromise, and to fill their spaces with pieces that look exceptional and do good for the planet.

How It Feels in Your Home

To bring a Stackabl piece home is to welcome something lively and tactile, yet rooted in quiet purpose. The layered textures of felt, the warmth of cork or wool, the gentle glow of LEDs—they enrich environments with depth and quiet elegance. More than objects, they are curated experiences—personal, resonant, and made to last.
