Robert Sonneman
Robert Sonneman, the founder of SONNEMAN – A Way of Light, is one of the most prominent names in modern lighting design. Robert Sonneman’s reputation for strict design and quality standards helped him build SONNEMAN into a leading brand in the lighting industry. Starting as an employee of George Kovacs in New York City in 1961, Robert was exposed to and inspired by modern European lighting, particularly the industrial Bauhaus aesthetic; the mission of distilling objects down to their functional essence and minimal simplicity. Sonneman is known for taking his lighting design inspiration from architecture, as well as designers throughout history including post-modernist Michael Graves, mid-century modernist Arne Jacobsen and industrial designers like Achille Castiglioni.
