Studying under icons Finn Juhl and Arne Jacobsen at the Danish School of Interior Design, designers Jørgen Kastholm and Preben Juhl Fabricius learned that the simplest lasts the longest and thus, timelessness was the ideal for their designs. The P376 Pendant Light from &Tradition achieves the goal of timelessness Kastholm and Fabricius sought to achieve, creating a clean yet sophisticated piece that speaks to the modern home over half a century after it was conceived in 1963. It’s a piece showcasing the great attention to detail of an architect as Kastholm and Fabricius were in their time. Hung with a fabric cord, the eyes are met with a great movement of shapes modeled firstly for uniform light diffusion. The concentric hand-spun aluminum shade flares out then tapers in elegant layers that stand out in the bright of the day and the dark of the night. Each metal sliver feels sharp and defined as warm light grazes its edges with the lights on. The rippling effect of light on the shade translates to a seductively diffused glow for the room.
&Tradition aims to bridge the values of solid handicraft to contemporary design. Their collection not only covers iconic designs and undiscovered gems from the masters of yesterday, but it also features new works from leading designers of today and from the talent of tomorrow. Formally known as Unique Copenhagen, &Tradition encourages the creation of what may become the classics of the future.
