Great design

I love this lamp; I had one decades ago, which somehow disappeared over two moves. The pull was defective; but it was immediately replaced--and with perfect packing. It is perfect for earthquake-prone California and perfect for apartment living.

This light is perfect for reading. We have it over our Eames lounger. We also use it to light the room with a softer light while watching movies etc. Function: The lamp has two ranges of motion. It swings in a 180 degree arc from its base. The height can be adjusted by feeding the cord through the armature. Ingenious. Construction: The wall mount is made of solid beautiful wood that looks like walnut. The arm is nicely gauged aluminum. The chord is solid white and at least 6 feet long from the counter weight to the plug. The counter weight is metal. The pull switch has a walnut ball on the end. The pull has a satisfying feel and does not cause the lamp to wobble or move at all. Installation: The lamp is mounted by two screws passing through two pre-drilled holes in the base. You need two people to mount this or some way to hold the saucer and armature while you drill the wooden base in. The chord passes through the base and right over the mount holes. Getting it out of the way so you can drill the screws in is tricky. I marred the cord on the second drill. Installation time with 2 bickering people, a laser level and a power drill was about 10 minutes. So its not hard to do at all.

Herman Miller

One of the most influential brands in American design, renowned for pioneering iconic mid-century modern furniture and lighting solutions, Herman Miller began its storied history in 1905 as Star Furniture Co. in Zeeland, Michigan. In 1923, businessman Herman Miller lent his name to the company, signaling a new chapter under the visionary leadership of his son-in-law, D.J. De Pree. This marked the beginning of Herman Miller's transformation into kingmakers of mid-century design.
