Muuto

The Muuto Story

Muuto was founded in 2006 by Peter Bonnen and Kristian Byrge who wanted to have their products represented in leading design shops around the world. Their name is inspired by the Finnish word “muutos,” meaning “change” or “new perspective,” and it is this concept that embodies the spirit within each and every piece. Their fearless, sometimes exclusive, use of raw materials such as bulbs, plastics, and metals, represents the great diversity, innovation, and character of true Scandinavian design.

Why We Love Muuto Lighting & Furniture

Muuto is firmly rooted in Scandinavian design, hand-picking the best designers from Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark. They encourage their designers to find new perspectives on everyday home interior products, which generates new and innovative lighting products for the fashion-minded consumer. Each piece is an entity unto itself, incorporating various amounts of raw materials to construct noticeably unique designs that are fun to both look at and use.

Fun Facts About Muuto Designs

Five years after Muuto was founded, their collection of furniture, lighting, and accessories was already sold in more than 800 of the world’s leading design shops on six continents. Thus, despite being a relatively young company, Muuto had already achieved international success.

Noteworthy Lighting from Muuto

Embodying a minimalistic whimsy, the E27 Pendant is a solid addition for decorative task lighting in the Scandinavian tradition. Inspired by children’s literature, the lacquered aluminum shade is softened by curves and classic Nordic colors, emanating a comforting light and youthful energy from the dome shape And the Nerd Chair is anything but nerdy. It is a Scandinavian take on the classic molded plywood chair and finds its home in modern spaces. Finally, the Unfold Pendant is a go-to choice for a ceiling light that encapsulates everything we love about Nordic design.
