Mario Bellini
Mario Bellini is an internationally renowned Italian designer and architect. Starting his career during the Italian economic boom of the mid-20th century, Bellini has created designs for some of the world’s most respected brands, including B&B Italia, Kartell, Vitra and Heller. In 1963, he started as a consultant for Olivetti, a then-typewriter manufacturer, designing the Programma 101, the precursor to the modern desktop computer. He also worked with Renault, Fiat and Lancia as an automobile consultant and designer. Bellini is an accomplished architect, designing the Milan Convention Centre, and completing refurbishments of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt and the European Patent Office in Holland. Mario Bellini is the recipient of numerous accolades including eight Compasso d’Oro awards and the Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement from Triennale de Milano, an Italian museum of art and design. The Camaleonda, one of his most iconic designs, is a modular sofa first designed in 1970 and completely redesigned with layers of recycled and recyclable materials for more sustainability and comfort. Many of his works are part of the permanent design collection at the New York Museum of Modern Art.
