I needed a lamp that could provide general light to our living room. I did not want any glare or contrasty light. I like that this light throws good light up and down out the ends of the shade, while throwing soft diffused light out through the shade. You get a good bounce of light off the ceiling with this shade, given how the bulb mounts horizontally inside. I'm using a standard GE Relax LED bulb with 1,100 lumens and 2,700K (75-watt equivalent, 10.5 watts actual), which works perfect for my needs. The lamp sits very secure, the base is a very heavy, solid steel plate. The threaded rod is also steel, and it is two-piece. The rod threads together to make one long pole and it was difficult to screw it together. I was extra careful to not cross thread, but it appears the threads were slightly damaged during manufacturing. It took a light application of bicycle grease and a strong grip to fully screw the two pieces together and make tight.
